Calcutta has become the country's first city to have a floating
hotel and in turn has joined cities like Moscow, St. Petersberg,
Vienna, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Phnom Phen, and Hong Kong where `Floatels'
are the major tourist and business attractions.
The four-storied Floatel in Calcutta has been built according to
international four-star standards.
The Floatel has a 24-hour coffee shop capable of accommodating 110
guests and a specialty restaurant and is centrally air-conditioned
with 73 deluxe rooms with the finest world-class business facilities
and three suites with attached marble and ceramic bathrooms.
The Rs. 31-crore Calcutta Floating Hotel Complex built with 21st
Century technology is now ready for launch.
Situated at the business district on the Hooghly river, Floatel
is India's first floating hotel built with environmental concern.
Soon to be Ecotel certified, this unique hotel will play the perfect
host to business travelers from 2007.
All rooms on Floatel are literally `on' the river and it is to be
a major destination for business travelers, as it would have fully
equipped state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities.
Floatel, managed by Orchid International, had been under the constant
scrutiny of the American Bureau of Shipping, an agency affiliated
to the UN's International Maritime Commission that certifies floating
structures on the basis of safety and security.
