Calcutta has become the country's first city to have a floating hotel and in turn has joined cities like Moscow, St. Petersberg, Vienna, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Phnom Phen, and Hong Kong where `Floatels' are the major tourist and business attractions.

The four-storied Floatel in Calcutta has been built according to international four-star standards.

The Floatel has a 24-hour Multicuisine restaurant capable of accommodating 110 guests and is centrally air-conditioned, 46 deluxe rooms with the finest world-class business facilities and three Suites with attached marble and ceramic bathrooms.

The Rs. 31-crore Calcutta Floating Hotel Complex built with 21st Century technology is now ready for launch. Situated at the business district on the Hooghly river, Floatel is India's first floating hotel built with environmental concern.

All rooms on Floatel are literally `on' the river and it is to be a major destination for business travelers, as it would have fully equipped state-of-the-art meeting and conference facilities.

Floatel, managed by Concept hospitality, had been under the constant scrutiny of the American Bureau of Shipping, an agency affiliated to the UN's International Maritime Commission that certifies floating structures on the basis of safety and security.
